Rev. Bryan Carter is a pastor at a church whose congregation is predominantly black. Rev. Jeff Warren is a pastor at a church whose congregation is predominantly white. They acknowledge the strong racial divide in their city of Dallas, and after hearing about all the terrible stories of racism on the news, they decided to swap churches one Sunday to deliver a very important message.
Surprisingly enough, there are still many people who are opposed to even being under the leadership of someone of a different race. You'd think that, in the year 2015, we would have accepted that judging someone based on the color of their skin is completely unacceptable. Yet we still see numerous instances of blatant or even "everyday" racism, such as what happened to this young man when he walked into a convenience store. As these pastors demonstrate, though, the best way to combat hate is through love. Just like this flight attendant did to this racist passenger, we need to stand up to people who believe it's OK to discriminate against someone just because of how they look.
My favorite part about this video is the way the members of each congregation respond to the experiment…and they're exactly right! Why should it matter what the people in your church (or anywhere) look like when it's what's on the inside that matters? These pastors taught a beautiful lesson just by swapping places, and I think we could all learn something by taking a walk in our neighbor's shoes.
