When a woman becomes pregnant, natural instincts kick in to protect what's growing inside her at all costs.
And I'm not just talking about human mothers, either. Animals can be just as protective, if not more, when it comes to keeping babies safe and sound — whether it's their own or someone they hold close to their heart. Take Panda the cat, who snuggles up to Mom's tummy throughout her pregnancy to get as close to her baby as possible.
There are studies that show dogs have a sixth sense when it comes to pregnancy, which is why we've seen several examples of man's best friend protecting childbearing women.
The story you're about to witness will make you a believer, if you aren't already. In the video below, posted on December 10, 2012, we see a clearly loyal canine sitting on a chair with a mom-to-be. The very pregnant mother is lounging on her back with her dog, who senses the baby, who's visible at this stage of the game.
At first glance you would never expect this dog to be so… territorial. Every time another family member approaches the pregnant woman — specifically her stomach — the dog goes into protector mode, snapping at any hands that come too close.
Relative after relative approaches the chair to test the dog — and every time, there's no lack in effort. Although the baby is clearly on his or her way, this mom should have no worries that she will be safe and sound come delivery day!
