President Joe Biden Visits Uvalde, Texas, And Says Robb Elementary School Should Be Razed

President Joe Biden visited the town of Uvalde, Texas, on May 30, 2022. The president reportedly met with survivors of the school shooting at Robb Elementary School as well as with the family members of victims.

Texas state Senator Roland Gutierrez revealed that Biden also has plans for the site of the shooting itself.

The senator says that President Biden told him, in part, "We’re going to look to raze that school and build a new one." While Biden did not address the media, he also told the senator, "I’m not going away … I’m going to bring your resources. … We’re looking to get real money for health care."

Senator Gutierrez also plans to move his office to Uvalde so he can live closer to the people who voted him into office. He is also working to introduce tougher gun restrictions and laws.

This would not be the first time a site of a mass shooting has been torn down. Sandy Hook Elementary School was razed and rebuilt following the December 2012 shooting there.

The First Baptist Church in Texas was also razed after a shooting at the church in 2017.

The United States Justice Department has announced that it will begin its own investigation into the shooting.

On the night following the shooting, Biden told the nation, "To lose a child is like having a piece of your soul ripped away. There's a hollowness in your chest, and you feel like you're being sucked into it and never going to be able to get out. It's suffocating. And it's never quite the same."
