Prince Performs Epic Rendition Of ”Purple Rain” In 1989

As the world mourns the shocking loss of Prince, I couldn't help but try to dig up a video of the man, the myth, the legend… and luckily, I found a good one. After all, it's near impossible to find videos of Prince performances online, so we knew we needed to share this!

In 1989, Prince appeared on "The Arsenio Hall Show" where he played four songs — including the one you're about to hear. Dressed in all his purple glory, Prince performed his classic song "Purple Rain" complete with incredible vocals and a face-melting guitar solo you don't want to miss. Seriously. Some people are surprised to learn what a genius guitar player he truly was, in addition to his iconic songwriting, singing, producing and dancing skills.

It's nearly impossible to think of Prince and his 40-year-long career and not think of "Purple Rain." The title track from the 1984 album of the same name, Rolling Stone ranked "Purple Rain" as one of the top 150 best songs ever written. For many years, fans have tried to decipher the meaning behind the poetic, mystical lyrics. Is it a song about heartache? Undying love? The end of the world, perhaps? Prince once offered up his own explanation, but his answer was just as mysterious as the song itself: "When there's blood in the sky — red and blue = purple… Purple rain pertains to the end of the world and being with the one you love and letting your faith/god guide you through the purple rain."

Whatever the song means, it's simply one of the best. Please enjoy Prince's show-stopping performance from 1989, and SHARE it with your friends on Facebook.
