On December 30, 2022, authorities arrested Bryan Kohberger and charged him with four counts of murder and one count of felony burglary in connection with the deaths of Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, Kaylee Goncalves, and Ethan Chapin.
The probable cause affidavit in the case was released on January 5, 2023, after Kohberger was transported back to Idaho. The details inside the affidavit have shed light on what happened the night the four students were killed.
As reported by People, a woman who shared a home with the four reportedly saw Kohberger, whom she described as "a figure clad in black clothing and a mask." She also says she heard one of the people who died crying.
The affidavit also reveals that authorities traced a knife sheath left behind to Kohberger before arresting him. The sheath was left near the bodies of Mogen and Goncalves, and authorities matched DNA left behind to trash at Kohberger's parents' home.
