It's always tragic when defenseless puppies are abused, especially when they don't survive their injuries. But when they are able to pull through, it gives vets and animal lovers everywhere a little hope that the sweet creature will find a warm home and loving family to call his own.
That's what vets are hoping for one terrier mix after he miraculously survived a gruesome injury. When the 10-week-old was brought to them, they were horrified by the five-inch metal rod sticking through his eye socket.
With this type of injury, they did not expect him to survive. Scans of the puppy's head revealed the entry and exit points of the rod, going straight through a part of his brain.
But just days after surgery, it seemed like the pup would make a full recovery. And in even better news, he ate, played, and slept like any normal puppy! His caretakers say he has a tremendous amount of energy.
After his story hit the airwaves, people lined up to adopt this adorable pooch.
Police say the previous owner who brought him into the shelter is not the one responsible for the crime. The owner surrendered the puppy to the shelter once he realized he could not afford the animal's medical care.
