Some 1970 Quarters Could Be Worth $35,000. Do You Know How To Spot Them?

I've always been obsessed with the idea that something I currently have in my house could be worth a ton of money.

Even as a kid, I dreamed of finding an arrowhead or piece of ancient pottery in my backyard — basically anything from the history books that would make me a pretty penny.

Obviously, I never found anything incredible in my yard, but maybe someday I'll find something in my wallet.

After discovering that there's a penny still in circulation that is worth $85,000, I immediately looked through my change jar.

While I didn't find the valuable penny, I did start wondering about other coins — specifically quarters — that could be worth a ton of money.

You might assume that to have any coin worth a fortune, you'd have to find something that's hundreds of years old. However, you might be surprised to know that some quarters minted within your lifetime could be worth thousands.

Lots of us have coins lying around our house, from old purses to coin jars, and maybe even in piles on top of our washing machines.

But could some of our quarters be worth more than just 25 cents?

In June 2016, AOL.com discovered a quarter listed on eBay for $35,000.

And it wasn't listed at that price as a joke — there were more than 20 people interested in purchasing this 1970 quarter!

So why exactly is this quarter worth so much money?

According to Woman's World, some quarters minted in 1970 were actually printed over 1941 Canadian quarters!

If you look closely, you can actually see the error.

If you look at the right side of the quarter, you'll see some strange markings.

It's very subtle, but right next to the word "Liberty" are remnants of the Canadian quarter.

For reference, this is what a 1940 Canadian quarter looks like.

Take note of the letters on the face side of the quarter. If you look right above the head, you see "D:G:REX.

Now look at a closeup of the American quarter.

It's pretty faded, but the "D," "G," and "R" are definitely noticeable.

Unfortunately, these quarters never entered circulation, so you won't find one in your change jar.

That being said, there are other valuable quarters that did enter circulation!

According to the U.S. Coin Guide, the 1796 Draped Bust Quarter could be worth up to $12,000, the 1804 Draped Bust Quarter could be worth up to $4,500, and the 1823 over 2 Capped Bust Quarter could be worth up to $40,000.

If you think you have a quarter that's worth more than 25 cents, bring it to a coin appraiser!
