Just last week, rumors began circulating that Reese Witherspoon, 47, and Kevin Costner, 68, were really hitting it off following their respective divorces earlier this year. New Idea, an Australian publication, reported that a source said Reese and Kevin are "extremely compatible" and have been talking frequently.
Rumors began circulating after that, and it got to the point that Reese's rep had to speak up and set the record straight. Her rep said that Reese is not dating Kevin Costner (and she's not dating Tom Brady, either).
“This story is completely fabricated and not true," Reese's rep told Page Six, referring to the rumors about Reese and Kevin's alleged post-divorce relationship.
Reese settled her divorce from Jim Toth in August, after nearly 12 years of marriage. She officially filed for divorce in April, and shortly after that, people were already speculating about her love life.

In April, Reese's rep had to respond to a different rumor. People began speculating about who Reese might be dating after her divorce announcement, and somehow landed on former NFL player Tom Brady, who was married to his ex-wife for about the same length of time that Reese and Jim Toth had been married. It kind of made sense if you excluded one key detail: Reese Witherspoon and Tom Brady had allegedly never met.
Reese's rep said the rumors were definitely not true, and Tom's rep said the same. Reese is used to the media attention, and she was open about her divorce so she could tell her story in her own way.
Reese announced her divorce via a joint statement with her ex-husband on Instagram, taking control of the narrative. "To be able to talk to people directly about what’s going on in my life and just share it in the way that I share great professional experiences or personal experiences, it feels much more authentic to be able to say things in my own voice and not let somebody else control what’s happening," Reese told Harper's Bazaar.
Of course, that doesn't stop people from speculating about her love life and spreading rumors, which she acknowledged as well. "There’s speculation, but I can’t control that. All I can do is be my most honest, forthright self and be vulnerable," she told Harper's Bazaar.
Despite the age gap between Reese and Kevin, rumors about their budding relationship seemed plausible to some. The source that spoke to New Idea alleged that Kevin and Reese began speaking about work-related topics and then discovered that they got along really well.
The New Idea source claimed that Reese and Kevin were just trying to get to know each other without drawing attention to their potential relationship. The "insider" said Kevin did not want any more "tabloid headlines."
“He and Reese are always careful to not be seen together but as soon as his Horizon commitments are done, they may be more relaxed about being seen together in public. It’s still very early days," the source claimed.
