Researchers Study An Unclassified Octopus And Its Babies

Have you ever wondered what things are swimming around in the deepest part of the ocean that have still yet to be seen or studied by humans? If so, you will be happy to know that there are places like the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute that specialize in finding those mysterious creatures and studying them to find out more.

Recreating atmosphere similar to what each creature would naturally inhabit, the researchers at the institute can observe every move they make and how they function in the ocean. For people like the researchers at the institute, there is nothing more exciting than finding an unknown species and learning everything they can…unless something even more exciting happens that they weren't expecting. Like the tiny octopus you may have seen that shocked beach-goers when it leapt out of a shell, the little octopus in this video proves that just because it's small doesn't mean there isn't a lot to learn about it.

After getting comfortable in its new home, this octopus gave researchers a wonderful surprise when they found that there were five eggs in its tank, perfect for studying their life cycle and give more them more information than they could have ever hoped for. The eggs may not hatch for a full three years, but it has definitely given the crew at the aquarium something to look forward to!
