If you’re someone who believes that there are animals out there who are simply meant to cross your path, this story will likely speak to you.
This video story posted by The Dodo shares how a shelter dog was so terrified when they were being taken into foster care, and how it took a lot of patience and love from her foster dad to make an impactful connection.
During her time at an animal rescue shelter, a beautiful dog named Chloe was so incredibly nervous and scared all the time that she would perpetually face the corner.
“Dogs do not do well in shelter, and some, like Chloe, any more time there, she would have completely shut down,” notes Shira Scott Astrof from Animal Rescue Mission.
Through a referral, the animal rescue was able to find a foster parent named Darvish. On her foster day, it was a lot of work to even get Chloe into his car to travel to her new home.
After they got her safely in the car, Shira came along for the ride and was able to bond with Chloe on that hour-long car journey. When they arrived at Darvish’s house, it then took well over an hour to coax Chloe out of the vehicle.

Once they finally got Chloe into Darvish’s house, they let her just roam around, but she ended up heading to a corner of his bedroom to curl up.
“It was a slow process. I put her bed next to my bed in that corner,” Darvish explains.
He divulges that since he works from home, he would spend a lot of time just sitting beside Chloe on the floor in order to build that trust.
