Sam, The Dancing Starbucks Barista, Meets Ellen For One Huge Surprise

Sam is living his life pretty much like any other 17-year-old young man. He works at his local Starbucks as a barista, and he's making valuable relationships along the way.

However, everyone used to tell Sam that he'd never be able to have a job. That's because Sam is autistic, and has also been diagnosed with a movement disorder. But that, of course, doesn't mean that he can't live his life to the fullest.

While attending a camp run by Integrated Services for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Sam met a Starbucks store manager, Chris Ali, and instantly made a connection. The coffee chain works regularly with this particular organization, and some of the employees were at the camp to help improve interview skills and to encourage the attendees to pursue employment. Sam took interest in the coffee business… that's when Ali approached the family about employment opportunities.

Through repetition, Sam caught onto the job quickly, and his dancing helps him manage his disorder and his concentration. His excellent attitude and good spirit make him a favorite with customers, and the bond between Sam and his boss is absolutely touching.

That's why Ellen DeGeneres had to have them both on her show to meet them in person. As always, she wanted to give these two deserving people a big surprise. When she opens the envelope from the tip jar, all of Sam's childhood dreams come true… I definitely reached for the tissues!
