Barefoot Toddler Who Was Hiding Walks Toward Police With Hands Up During Dad’s Arrest

Vernon Graham was an experienced police officer who had been patrolling the streets of Tallahassee, Florida, for more than 20 years. Even though it was a beautiful city filled with notable landmarks and tourist hotspots, he found it still rife with crime.

Vernon had been married for several years and was the father of two teenage daughters. He always tried to be extra careful while out on the job due to his family, but there were lots of times when he felt he needed to practice empathy because there was always someone who was put in tough circumstances out of their control.

One night, Vernon and his rookie partner, Catherine, were out on their nightly patrol when they received a call over the radio that an armed robbery was taking place at a small grocery store nearby.

The call noted that there were several scared citizens still in the store, so Vernon and Catherine quickly headed off to protect and serve. The two officers were the first to arrive on the scene. As they pulled up to the store, Vernon couldn’t help but notice a van haphazardly parked right outside the store.

Vernon had a feeling that the assailants had parked their van directly in front of the store so they could make a quick getaway. As he went up to the van, he immediately noticed something small moving inside — there was a child inside!
