Shellie Puckett was a 42-year-old mother who was ready for something new. Puckett went to college at the age of 35 in order to prove to her kids that education is "attainable and important," according to the Today show. She had big dreams for herself and pursued them, becoming a teacher and never looking back.
Unfortunately, the life of a school teacher had taken a bit of a toll onPuckett when it came to her morning routine.
"I'm a school teacher and every day you don't really have a lot of time to get fixed up," she said. "So I just throw my hair up and go to school." She was nicknamed "Bun Lady" for her frequent signature hairstyle.
Kathy Lee explained that Puckett wanted an ambush makeover because it was "the first time in her life that she's OK with herself, and she wants to look like she's OK with herself."
"I so need this, I need it!" Puckett exclaimed. She wanted this makeover so badly, she took a sick day from school just for the occasion (don't worry, we won't tell!).
The Today show's ambush makeover crew took Puckett and got to work. Her husband, Tony, and her children, Morgan and Logan, waited patiently with blindfolds wrapped around their eyes.
Finally, Kathy Lee announced, "Let's bring out Shellie Puckett!"
