We see trends come and go on the Internet all the time, but only a few make it big enough to become viral legends.
It's always exciting to see a new addition to the Hall of Fame — from uplifting stories like the tale of the Lumpkins family adoption story to strange trends that we still don't totally get, like these weird bubble nails.
The latest story making huge waves on the Internet falls into a mind-boggling and baffling category all it's own.
It's an optical illusion that has people divided over one major question: are these legs shiny or not?
We can all agree that they don't look quite right, but people are mesmerized by the accidental "special effect" that makes this pair of legs look so unusual!
These gams are kicking up a ton of conversation, and we just can't stop looking!
Scroll through below to learn what exactly makes these legs look like they're coated in plastic.

This photo was recently posted to Twitter, and no one can agree: are these legs shiny or not?
Some people have suggested that they're covered in oil or wrapped tight in plastic for a gleaming, Barbie-esque look.
But lots of others don't see a shiny look at all, and insist they're just ordinary legs!

In fact, this pair of legs is actually an unintentional optical illusion!
People all over Twitter and other social media platforms are sharing the photo, along with mysterious hints at what's really causing the strange effect.
This one warns, "Once you see it you can't unsee it."

The photo was first posted to Instagram under the handle leonardhoespams.
Their simple post of their legs stretched out on the floor blew up in totally unexpected ways — garnering over 6,000 likes on the photo-sharing site.
Comments immediately began to flood in asking what exactly was causing their legs to shine, but leonardhoespams quickly cleared things up: it's paint!

That's right, these legs aren't slicked in oil or naturally shiny a la Barbie — they're just ordinary legs, streaked with a little bit of white paint!
Look closely at the sides of the photo; you'll see a whole pile of paint markers, circled above.
Upon closer examination, you can see it's just streaks of white paint from the markers, creating the illusion of light reflecting, making the legs appear shiny!

The uproar around the photos reminds us of the drama around the infamous blue and black dress.
No one could decided whether this dress was blue and black or white and gold when it first became a sensation.
Eventually, the owner revealed it was always black and blue.

Folks all over the Internet had a similar outburst of one other photo that created an accidental optical illusion.
When someone dropped her phone (in a floral case) on the rug, it totally disappeared.
Can you spot where it ended up in the picture above?
And how about those legs — did you think they were shiny at first, or did you see the paint right away?
