8-year-old Bubby Everson of Graham, WA was born with Cytomegalovirus (CMV). It's a potentially fatal disease, and most children diagnosed with CMV don't live past 15 years of age.
As a result of his CMV, Bubby has been diagnosed with autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, ODD, severe allergies, ADHD, and microcephaly. He has the mental advancement of a four-year-old, and he requires implants for hearing and a wheelchair or stroller when in public.
Despite all the hardships he faces at his young age, he's an incredibly joyous little boy who loves playing with Legos and stickers, and getting mail.
Because doctors are not sure exactly how many years Bubby has left, his parents want to treat every birthday as special. In fact, for his upcoming 9th birthday, they have one incredibly simple request that will bring great happiness to him and will grant his birthday wish: they're asking for people to send birthday cards!
When LittleThings found out about Bubby, his family, and their simple Birthday wish, we rushed out to get the inspirational young man a card and some stickers. Watch the news story about Bubby at the end of this post. You can see how the "little things" in life really do fill him with glee.
At this stage of his life, he can suffer up to ten seizures a day, and he often has to retreat into a quiet "safe space" that his family has made for him out of a box and several blankets. The family is still incredibly grateful to have him. His mother told their local news station, "We're blessed. I'm so glad we have the child that we have…because he's amazing."
