Once in a while, you come across stories whose headlines seemed to be ripped straight from the movies.
The harrowing tale of how one mother and her 11-year-old daughter lived with and then escaped their captor is just one of them.
Neither mother nor daughter were named, but cops caught wind of the situation all thanks to a small note, handwritten by the mother and handed off to an adult by her daughter.
The student, who attends East Feliciana Middle School in Louisiana, handed the secret note to a teacher.
Needless to say, the teacher was likely horrified by what it said: the girl's mother was being held hostage inside a home.
In no time, the school alerted the sheriff's office, and a search was soon underway. The mother was eventually found inside a home, thankfully alive.
The perpetrator was also found and apprehended. Upon hearing the authorities bust into his house, Donald Ray Guy hid in the closet, but with no success.
Now, thanks to her daughter's brave move, this mom is free of captivity and alive and well! A story like this definitely shows that we may not be totally aware of what going on in our neighbors' homes!
