It's been 12 years since Utah mom of two Susan Cox Powell disappeared in 2009. Her body was never found, and her husband, Josh Powell, killed himself and the pair's two young children three years after she vanished.
At the time of his wife's disappearance, Josh claimed that he had taken the two boys on a camping trip. Friends and family never believed his story added up, with Susan's friend Kiirsi Hellewell explaining, "Susan would have never allowed him to ever take the boys out in the winter to the desert, in the middle of the night. Never. I never believed his story at all."
It also seems Susan was aware of the fact that her husband might try to harm her. Investigators discovered a handwritten note locked away at her bank that claimed Josh had taken out a $1 million life insurance policy on her. She wrote, "If I die, it may not be an accident."
Josh Powell was never charged in his wife's disappearance, despite what many believe was plenty of evidence to do so. As Susan's friend pointed out, "He never participated in any of the massive, massive efforts that myself and relatives and friends launched to put out flyers in malls and parking lots."
