Tahitian Dancer Astonishes Crowd With Her Powerful Hip Moves

One Tahitian dancer just may have given Colombian superstar Shakira, who’s known for her famous hip shake, a run for her money as “her hips don’t lie” either!

In what appears to be a dance competition, a Tahitian dancer named Melanie wowed the crowd with her impressive ability to shake her hips for a traditional Tahitian dance.

We’ve seen some pretty impressive dance moves lately with dancers of all ages — from Dancing with the Stars winners who gave a voice to the deaf community with an epic dance and a 90-year-old swing dancer who wowed with her fancy footwork.

Dressed in traditional Tahitian attire, which included a royal blue bikini top and matching blue-and-white wrap, Melanie also wore a stunning headdress donned with orchids and tropical flowers that cascaded down her hair. Melanie, who makes the dance look effortless, truly stunned the audience and the judges.

“The dance was absolutely beautiful. But the most beautiful thing was her smile. That smile was maintained through the entire dance. Loved it,” said one viewer on Facebook.

Today, there are four types of traditional Tahitian dances that have been revived among Polynesian customs: the Otea, “a somewhat a military dance, reserved for men;” the Aparima, where “the hands of the dancers mime history;” and the Hivinau and the Pa’o’a, where male and female dancers form a circle or a semicircle.
