Teen Loses Trumpet Twice At Auction, Then Classmate’s Dad Puts Large Black Case In Front Of Him

When Luis Sanchez picks up his trumpet, it seems as if everything is right with the world.

The day this Rocklin High School junior discovered that the trumpet was his favorite instrument, he never looked back. In the video below, posted on February 28, 2017, he explains, "I love how it's loud, but yet, it's like so soft and you could express so much music with it and I can relate to it."

Although Luis is happy having his silver trumpet by his side, things weren't always like this.

Luis comes from a low-income family. His father works as a bus driver and makes just enough to cover insurance and bills. Luckily, his circumstances never wiped Luis' smile from his face. He didn't ask for much, but there was one thing he truly wanted.

His mom says, "He would tell me every day, 'I want that trumpet.'"

Luis started saving money to get his hands on his prized instrument. Soon enough, his school held an auction where he could bid on his favorite instrument. Unfortunately, a fellow classmate had bid $500 on the trumpet and took it home. Luis was upset, but decided to keep saving for the next auction.

Luis had saved $600 for the next auction and was ready to spend it all on his future trumpet. When it came time to bid, another student's father bid $1,200 for Luis' prized instrument, leaving the teen with a broken heart once more.

The father, Gian Montesini, quickly realized what was going on.

"I heard that he had been saving money," he says. "I did not dare look at him because [at] the same time I'm thinking, 'Aw man, I just crushed this little guy's heart.'"

With a selfless glimmer in his eye, Gian approached Luis during the auction.
