There's a new restaurant in downtown Toronto, and it's unlike any restaurant you've ever been in! Anjan Manikumar recently opened Signs, a restaurant that's staffed with completely deaf waiters, and encourages patrons to sign what they want off the menu.
Manikumar wanted to give deaf people, who sometimes have a hard time in the workforce, a place where they could feel important and integral to a business. He also wanted to provide them with a positive environment that would make them feel empowered, not constantly trying to catch up.
"Providing them an opportunity here is something they deserve, and they are very talented," Manikumar says in the video.
I think this is a wonderful idea, and it allows people who have the gift of hearing to understand, even if only for a dinner, what it's like to live in a different world.
