The Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Providence, Rhode Island has one very special resident: Oscar the Cat, who was adopted by the staff members as a kitten. In this video, David Dosa, MD, explains Oscar's incredible gift.
You see, Oscar has an uncanny ability to predict when elderly residents are about to die. He has presided over the deaths of more than 25 residents, and his mere presence at the bedside is viewed by staff as an "almost absolute indicator of impending death." Because of Oscar's behavior, the staff is able to properly notify families, and he also provides powerful comfort to those who would otherwise die alone. Cats are truly incredible creatures, and Oscar is proof of how amazing they can be.
