Tips For Safeguarding Your Home While You’re On Vacation

It's that time of year again. The weather is nice, the sun is shining, and maybe you're planning a vacation out of town. But what of those valuables laying around the house?

WTNH News8 spoke with local Fairfield, CT police officer suggests a few simple tricks that can help protect your home while you're out of town. Motion-sensitive lights help protect your home, he says, as does surveillance signage in the yard (even if it's fake). He also suggests sending someone to pick up your mail and tend to your yard to avoid any clues that you're away.

In addition to these great tips, we've also reported a few clever tricks to keep any intruders at bay when you're away from your home. To forego the whole spare-key-under-the-doormat habit in favor of something a little more subtle, try a hack that'll let you hide your key in an old pill bottle to store in your garden. Another great spot to keep valuables when you know you'll be out for long periods of time are faux outlets that function as small hiding places for things like jewelry or keys. And if you'd rather skip the DIY and go straight for convenience, try the bottom of an LED candle.
