
Russia has released former US Marine Trevor Reed from prison after three years in the country. Reed was originally sentenced to nine years in prison for allegedly endangering the life of Russian police officers.
Reed's mother, Paula Reed, confirmed the news to Twitter, writing, "It's been (a) very exciting day for the Reed family. Trevor is back in the USA."
CNN has reported that the US government has been working for months to release Reed. US officials have had major concerns about Reed's health, and they managed to arrange his release in exchange for Konstantin Yaroshenko.
Reed's parents were concerned when they heard from their son prior to his release. As his mother explained, "The first phone call we got, he did not sound like himself."
Their second phone call was better, with Paula Reed saying, "He still looks terrible, but he sounded better. He sounded more like himself."
