She Almost Tossed Her Old TV. Instead? $20 Made Something AMAZING!

Updating and repurposing old furniture has never been so fun — or meaningful! You know those old, boxy TV sets from way back when? These days, they're either broken altogether or just thrown in the trash after an upgrade, never again seeing the light of day. Now, I never thought of turning one of these "ancient relics" into a stylish dog bed, but when one handy craftsman uploaded this DIY project to Imgur, I knew this cool, creative idea just had to be seen by all.

You, too, can learn how to create a bed for your beloved pet out of an old box TV. Queen Bee Coupons has shared the following easy-to-follow instructions for this adorable DIY project:

  1. Find an old, big, boxy TV. Don’t pay for it — people should be giving these away.
  2. Find a nice, big work space. Lay down a blanket and lay the TV on its front side (screen down) on the blanket. Be careful, you don’t want it to break. Make sure it’s unplugged (duh).
  3. Then start unscrewing. Unscrew the back panel and all the pieces inside. If you have a power drill, it will probably save you ample time and wrist-pain.
  4. Gut the TV. Pull stuff out and place it aside as you work your way toward the front of the TV. As for the guts, check with your local solid waste department, as there could be special disposal instructions for them.
  5. You should be left with a wood frame. Measure the width/height of the back hole and head to Home Depot or Lowe’s and have them cut a piece of plywood to cover the backside. They will cut it for free! Nail the back to the frame.
  6. Next, decide if you want to paint your bed. If so, you may need to sand it first. If you’re not sure? Sand it. It certainly can’t hurt, and if you do decide to paint it, the paint will adhere to the wood much better.
  7. If you have decided to paint the bed, do so and let it dry.
  8. Find a pillow or comforter that fits the space, or make one using foam from a craft store and some simple fabric.

An Imgur user posted an ad out looking for an old box TV. He found a woman who was ready to throw her broken set in the trash, so she gave it to him for free.

The next step requires a lot of unscrewing, including the back panel and all the little pieces inside. This dog owner was met with lots of dust, wires, boarding, glass, vacuum tubes, plastic, and more dust.

The TV set was then completely gutted until all that was left was a wooden frame. After he cleaned it up, it was ready to be painted.

Sanding down the wood made it easier to paint, and then came the aesthetic touches. Here's the finished product — complete with two comfy dogs!
