For Joanna Goddard, the blogger behind A Cup of Jo, it was hard to see her twin sister in mourning. Dr. Lucy Kalanithi's husband was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away, and all the while, she was by her side. Even after a year after her husband's passing, Lucy was still confiding in her sister about how she felt. To her, the home they shared felt hollow, and it made her sad every time she came home. So one year after the sad event, when Lucy was ready to move forward with her life, Joanna came up with a brilliant plan.
Joanna didn't want her twin sister to cry anymore, and she inadvertently reduced her to tears when she gave her the surprise of a lifetime. With the help of her friend, Jenny Komenda, an interior designer, she completely transformed the California home. The dark furniture and drab walls were taken away, and bright colors took over. The home makeover even included awesome DIY bookshelves! Even the color of the bedding was changed to lift Lucy's mood.
When she saw what Joanna had done, Lucy had to fight back tears. Now, she says that she's excited every time she comes home!
