Remember graduating high school? There were so many things to be excited and worried about. You were moving on in life! But would you do well in college? Did you really have to get a job? Couldn't you travel the world instead? Graduating high school is like entering the "real world" for the first time. You finally get some freedom!
Tuscaloosa teen Mari Filer knocked her high school graduation out of the park. Not only was she her school's valedictorian, she received a 4.56 GPA, earned 24 college credits, and $2.8 million in college scholarships. Mari was rightfully proud of all her hard work and shared her achievements on Twitter, as most teens are known to do.
Wherever there is someone successful, there are always people ready to tear them down. Twitter is one of those places where it's very easy to share negative opinions, which Mari got plenty of. People tried to discredit her, claiming that her accomplishments weren't possible. But Mari was ready to defend her hard work!
Mari initially posted about her success on May 18, captioning the photo "Graduated as valedictorian with a 4.56 GPA, over 24 college credits, and $2.8 million in scholarships! S/OtoGOD."
It has been shared over 45,000 times and liked over 85,000 times.
People were quick to try and discredit her success, claiming it's impossible to get over a 4.0. She quickly shot back at a hater who said she couldn't add with a photo of the breakdown of her GPA and this, "no it adds up just fine! I have more weighted courses than unweighted courses! Causing my 4.56 GPA."
Mari's accomplishments didn't just stop at her millions of scholarship offers. She received 39 college acceptance letters for fall of 2017.
Mari isn't the first valedictorian in the family. Back in 1977, Mari's father was also his high school's valedictorian. She's continuing to follow in her father's footsteps and attending his alma mater, Florida A&M.
Mari recalled some of the hate that she got when interviewed by WIAT. She said: “A man said what…what was she doing out of the kitchen?…that’s a lie, she’s doing this to boost her ego, she’s trying to make herself look better by doing this and that, you can’t even get above a 4.0 GPA, but okay, where are you going to school, Mars university."
Mari has taken to Twitter to thank all of those who are supporting her and encouraging others to be proud of their own hard work.
At the end of the day, Mari says she always thanks God, because without him, none of this would be possible for her.
