One thing that can bring light to anyone's day is seeing a garden flourishing. All of the bright flowers and green leaves that sprout form the ground are a reminder that life is amazing, and that there can always be a fresh start.
Even greater joy comes from tending to your own garden, and watching the life that you created grow from the earth.
I know that my parents' backyard is covered in flowers. Both my mother and my father love to spend their summer days off watering the gardens and filling the yard with color. It's always such a treat to leave the city and go home to such a colorful oasis in the woods. I've come to love keeping my own plants in my apartment, too, and it's a wonderful way for me to keep that family tradition alive.
When Tamron Hall wanted to do something for her mother, she thought back to the summer that the family tried to grow a vegetable garden together. Her father so badly wanted to harvest all of his own fresh vegetables from his own backyard. Unfortunately, the garden was a failure.
The time between that summer and the next proved to be incredibly difficult for the family when Hall's father passed away. Plans for a veggie garden were put on hold, and Hall's mother was in poor spirits. Hall just wanted her to be happy again.
So, last year, Hall put together one big, green surprise for her mother. Her reaction? Priceless.
