Disabled Vet Breaks Down, Asking ‘Is This Really Ours?’ After Strangers Surprise Him With House

As of 2015, there were over 3.8 million disabled veterans living in the United States. The sacrifice of servicemen and servicewomen is unimaginable to those who have not experienced it.

Veteran Raphael Pizarro knows about that sacrifice all too well. Raphael, currently living in Las Vegas, Nevada, spent 12 years living overseas as an Army medic. He was deployed to Iraq in 2004 and 2005, caring for injured soldiers and insurgents in the area.

Although he retired in 2008, Raphael still struggles with memories of combat and is technically "70 percent disabled."

"There are things my wife doesn't know," Raphael explains. "But with her love and the love of my family, I have been able to overcome a lot."

Nine years after Raphael's retirement, local groups and strangers in Las Vegas realized that Raphael had sacrificed enough.

So the Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals and locals came together to give Raphael and his wife a brand-new house, not to mention a pretty sweet backyard!

When Raphael and his wife first found out they were receiving a house, he completely broke down. "Is this really ours?" he asked through tears. "Is this really ours, baby?"

The whole house was remodeled. Once volunteers spruced up the inside, they completely overhauled the outside as well.

The Pizarros could barely believe how beautiful the new space looked as they walked around and said, "Oh my goodness! Wow!"
