Tessa Smith, a Georgia waitress, wasn't expecting to stumble upon a small fortune.
She'd been working at Country's Barbecue for about four years. It was 2015, and she was bussing a few tables when she saw the envelope.
“I seen a bunch of trash on the tables, so I tried to grab it. But when I grabbed it, it wouldn’t bend… so I opened it and I saw a lot of money in an envelope," she recalled. "I just went and found my manager."
The next thing to do was obvious to the single mother of two. She knew she had to return the envelope, which was filled with 13 $100 bills.
“Growing up, we were always taught if you find something that’s not yours to give it back," she said.
It wasn't enough telling her manager: Tessa was determined to get the money back to the rightful owners.
“We got cameras everywhere, so we found the time that they came and the time that they left," said Tessa.
They took screenshots of the people from the security cameras and posted them to Facebook. Thanks to those who commented and shared, they were able to find the owners.
A couple of days later, the family returned to pick up what was theirs. Tessa was applauded by her employer for doing an honest job when many others would have made a different choice.
