Watch Firefighters Rescue a Puppy Trapped in a Sewer Drain

Buffalo firefighters went above and beyond the call of duty when a 3-month-old puppy tumbled into a sewage drainage pipe.

Ed and his wife Penny Sayles were dog sitting their daughter's teacup Yorkshire terrier named Baily when the tiny puppy tumbled into a sewer vent that didn't have a cover. They'd been outside playing in the yard when the accident occurred.

The puppy fell about six feet down the drain, so rescuers had to use an excavator to help get the puppy out of the ground. They'd tried to coax the puppy with treats, but to no avail. Instead, they had to dig a hole large enough for firefighters to grab Bailey. Their heroic rescue was all captured on camera (and can be viewed in the video below.)

After about two hours, the puppy was rescued and immediately given oxygen. The puppy is in good condition.

Buffalo Firefighter Joe Colligan, who pulled Bailey out from the ground, said he was just happy the pup made it out alive.

"Just to touch him and know he was alive, that's all that matters," he told WGRZ.

When the dog is finally reunited with its owner, she bursts into tears. It is a true miracle that Bailey is alive after such a fall. God bless those amazing rescuers!
