Real-life investigations take time. Not everything can be solved in 45 minutes like on a good Law and Order episode. In 2021, 52-year-old David Rainey died during a family vacation. Two years later, his wife, Cindy Rainey, and sons Jack and Bailey Rainey were arrested in connection with his murder.
They are charged with tampering with evidence. This is the biggest break in the case thus far. At this time, the public has not been told who is a possible suspect or what the motive could be in the case.
On July 25, 2021, Cindy Rainey first reported her husband missing to authorities. She claimed he left their vacation rental property after an argument. He did not take his glasses, phone, or keys with him.
A gruesome discovery was made that same night.
"Later that evening, Investigators with the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office found David Rainey deceased in a canal behind their rented residence," the local sheriff explained. "David Rainey had multiple stab wounds to the chest and had been placed in the water after his death. David Rainey’s death was ruled a homicide."

Cindy Rainey and Bailey Rainey were arrested on October 25, 2023, in Bunnell, Florida. Jack Rainey was arrested in Orlando, Florida. The Dixie County Sheriff’s Office made all three arrests.
The investigation is ongoing. There is still much to uncover in this case. It is known that Bailey Rainey made a GoFundMe account after his father’s death. He asked for people to make “charitable” donations for his and Jack’s future instead of flowers. It raised $475.
David Rainey’s obituary remembers him as a family man. He was born in California but lived in Palm Coast, Florida, at the time of his death. He was a respected welder and mechanic who primarily worked on steam and gas turbines.
