I don't know about you, but you'll never find me at the edge of a cliff or at an open plane window, gearing up to jump. It's simply not how my brain is wired, and my mind would never be able to tell my body to do something so, well, crazy!
But there are people who thrive on this kind of adrenaline. These people are able to count down from three and take the chance in order to feel the rush of free-falling or flying through the sky like a bird. To be honest, I envy these people! I'm sure that there's no better way to feel alive than hurling yourself off of a mountain and knowing you'll land safely.
Most of these people, however, toss themselves from great heights with the safety of a parachute. Even though landing a wingsuit jump without a parachute has been done before (into a giant pile of cardboard boxes for cushioning), most jumpers take the precaution and the ease of a parachute landing.
In 2013, Raphael Dumont paired up with Wingman to do something unthinkable: land a wingsuit jump on water without the safety of a parachute. As you can imagine, this could have gone terribly wrong, but when the moment of truth comes after careful planning and precaution? This is ridiculously awesome!
I'm just glad I can watch this from the safety of my office chair and didn't have to test this out myself.
