I'm sure you've seen more than enough cover versions of "Let It Go" (from the hit Disney film Frozen) to last you the rest of your life. They're all over the Internet. But sometimes a new one comes along that completely redeems the concept of the cover song and just blows us away with its cleverness. This is one of those times.
With the impact of Winter Storm Juno affecting much of the northeastern part of the United States right now (and more heavy snow on the way), the number of schools in the area that are closing their doors for the day are growing exponentially.
Moses Brown School in Providence, Rhode Island is among those allowing students and staff to stay at home on Tuesday, but Head of School Matt Glendinning didn't want to make the announcement in the boring old way his young students are used to. No, no. He had much bigger plans for this cold, wintry day.
In this video, you'll see Glendinning put on his hat and gloves and give the students something to truly cheer about as he announces that school is closed by doing a cover song (and video) of "Let It Go."
While the Head of School is clearly no Elsa, he does appear to be a pretty funny guy and we love that he has such a great sense of humor to be able to do this for his kids. Moses Brown School includes students from nursery school age all the way up through grade 12, so I'm sure the younger kids especially got a kick out of this video.
And how could they not? With lyrics like, "School is closed. School is closed. Because it snowed so much last night. School is closed. School is closed. So stay at home and sit tight," this video is a surefire viral hit.
We've seen school administrators do clever things for school closing announcements before (remember the duo that covered Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby"?), but this one is so lighthearted, well-meaning, and fun that it's hard not to smile throughout.
Way to go, Moses Brown School and especially Head of School Matt Glendinning (who does all the acting in the video) and Chair of the Performing Arts Department Justin Peters (who provides the vocal track). It's educators like you that makes students love learning!
