Woman Plans To Nap On Flight But Man Takes A Seat Next To Her … And Then They Get Engaged

In the age of online dating, it's not uncommon to fantasize about the perfect meet-cute. While commonly depicted in romcoms and novels, the idea of meeting the love of your life by chance while sitting at a cafe or enjoying a concert doesn't always feel realistic. But one couple, now engaged, that met on an Icelandair flight are proof that it can happen.

Sasha Ebrahimi, 25, and Daniel Gutierrez, 35, met on a seven-hour flight from Denver to London via Reykjavik, Iceland, in April 2022. While Sasha was planning on enjoying some alone time and catching up on sleep, what actually happened for her turned out to be even better.

Since the flight was nearly full, the empty seat next to Sasha would be filled, according to a story published by People. Sasha was disappointed until she saw Daniel, the man she would be spending the seven-hour flight with. Daniel reportedly noticed Sasha in the airport earlier.

Instead of sleeping, Sasha and Daniel talked throughout the flight, discussing their lives and exchanging travel stories and tips.

"He was very calm. I am a very chaotic person," Sasha told People. "It was easy for us to connect. And I think that was the biggest thing, like I didn’t feel like I was trying too hard. The conversation just flowed naturally.”

They immediately had a strong connection. Because Sasha had traveled a lot before, she asked for Daniel's number, saying she would send him travel recommedations. In reality, she asked for his number because she thought she would marry him someday.

“About an hour into the flight, I said to myself, ‘I am going to marry this man,’” she said. "And as soon as I got off the plane, I texted my friend Claire and said, ‘I just met my husband on the plane.’”

A few days went by after the flight, and Sasha still hadn't heard from Daniel, so she decided to text him. They made plans to meet in Scotland, where they shared their first kiss, then later met up in Amsterdam, where they had their first date.

Now, they live together in the US and plan to get married this month. “I don’t think we would have ever met each other if it wasn’t for Icelandair,” Sasha said. The airline has gifted the couple with tickets to Iceland.
