I've very often browsed through antique fairs and garage sales in search for some valuable trinket, though I never came across anything worth much. But one woman browsing a garage sale had better luck.
Alice House found a box at a garage sale in 2013. She paid less than $10 for the find, but the box's contents were priceless. In it, she found memories in the form of photographs and military discharge papers. The name on those papers? Homer Pettigrew.
The box was originally found in a storage unit, but that was all the information she had. She tried, over the course of two years, to find Homer Pettigrew, but with no luck. She finally contacted the KOB news station with the story, and it was able to be aired with the hopes that the photos' owner would be found.
Sure enough, mere minutes after the story was featured on the news, KOB received an email — and from Homer himself! A meeting between the two was set up.
Homer was relieved to see the pictures and the memories again, even breaking down when identifying his mother in one of them. The Vietnam veteran had many memories to share with Alice, and couldn't thank her for returning the photos that had been missing for almost two decades!
When talking about the moment he realized his photos were on the news, he says, "When it came on, I saw my name and I said, 'That's my name… those are my pictures, with the photo of the boy in the hat,' I said, 'That's me!'"
If you're happy that this veteran was reunited with his photos, please SHARE!
