World War II Letter Turns Up At PA Post Office And Gets Delivered To Late Soldier’s Family

A woman missing her husband during the holiday season was treated to the surprise of a lifetime, courtesy of a Pittsburgh post office.

Angelina Gonsalves lost her husband, Johnny, six years ago. "I loved him dearly and he was quite a guy. I still feel his presence, I really do," she told CBS Boston.

Angelina and Johnny were married for 61 years and had five sons together. She remembers the Christmas season as Johnny's favorite time of year: "It was just a funny feeling, he was around us at Christmas time. One of his favorite times of the year."

It was for these reasons that a letter written by Johnny showing up at their home was both a surprise and a blessing. The letter was written by Johnny when he served in World War II. It was penned to his mom, about five years before he'd meet Angelina. Though the letter wasn't written to her, it brought joy to her heart nonetheless.

"I love it. I love it. When I think it’s all his words, I can’t believe it. It’s wonderful. And I feel like I have him here with me, you know?" she shared.

"Give my love to the family in regards to all," she read from the letter.

"Take care, love and kisses your son Johnny. I’ll be seeing you soon I hope."

So how did the letter arrive to them after all this time? It was found in a Pittsburgh post office. The employees there did some research and figured out where the letter was meant to be delivered 77 years ago. In doing so, they made Angelina's holiday season a little brighter with memories of her beloved.
