When Julia Gunthel was 4 years old she discovered she had an amazing talent during gym class. She could easily reach down and touch her toes — but that was only the beginning of it.
“I could easily touch my toes or hook my legs around my neck — I didn’t have to think about it. My family were immediately all very proud of my ability and they encouraged me to practice and make the most of it,” Julia told DailyMail.
This inspired Julia to join a local “circus academy.” It was an after school program that allowed her to practice her flexibility. Today, Julia, who goes by “Zlata The Contortionist,” has made bending her profession.
“I would love to still be doing this when I’m 70 – I know a lot of contortionists who still are doing it in their 60s and 70s so hopefully I will be the same,” she said.
Julia is regarded as the most flexible woman in the world. While most contortionists either back bend or front bend, like The Ross Sisters, Julia can do both. Her unique abilities have made doctors around the world very interested in what makes her back so different from other people’s.
In the video, you’ll see Julia contort into an MRI machine; what doctors discover has their jaws dropped.
