The relationships between pet owners and their dogs never die. After a dangerous incident that caused her two dogs to run away, one woman is trying to look on the bright side of things.
Burglars broke into Jackie Perdue's home one evening, prompting her two dogs, Zoey and Coco, to flee the scene. She desperately searched for them and even reached out to local news channels for help.
"She would always just be with me," Perdue cried, referring to Zoey.
While Perdue was on the hunt for her two best friends, a man named Jack Mcinerney made quite the discovery.
Four years ago, Mcinerney had set up cameras in a Mira Mesa, CA, canyon in order to record wildlife. While going over his footage recently, he spotted a severely injured dog that was dragging her back legs as she walked.
It turned out that he had found Zoey, one of Perdue's lost pets.
Although Mcinerney had only the best intentions, frightened Zoey wouldn't let him come near her. She dragged herself away in his presence. Mcinerney continued to bring her food and showed the footage to a friend, who quickly recognized Zoey from one of Perdue's local news pieces.
"The miracle is, it's close to Christmas," Mcinerney explained. "And this is a cool story because this dog is definitely a survivor, you know what I mean." He said that he hoped the dog would eventually be given wheels for her back legs. "This dog wants to live."
Now that Perdue knows that her dog has been surviving in a canyon with her unfathomable leg injuries, she and Mcinerney plan to slowly get her to come home and receive the medical attention she needs.
