Touching Twitter Thread Explains Why You’re Not As ‘Ugly’ As The Mirror Makes You Think

If you're having an "ugly" day, this tweet will turn your attitude right around.

Twitter user Alex Durog wrote a poetic message about self-love and beauty in honor of her girlfriend for their anniversary. But Alex's words were so touching, they wound up moving thousands.

"You call yourself ugly, but that's because you've only seen yourself when you're looking in the mirror," Alex's Twitter thread began. "You don't see yourself when your face lights up at the sight of a baby, ice cream, or your favorite restaurant."

She continued, "You don't see yourself when you smile at me for finally understanding what you're trying to say."

We all have days when we feel like we're just not good enough. But as Alex points out, our beauty shines through when we least expect it. We just don't get to see all those gorgeous moments when we're posing in the mirror!

Clearly, a lot of people needed to hear this message. The uplifting tweet has now been retweeted over 103,000 times.

Earlier this year, she penned a Twitter thread dedicated to those who think they're "ugly."

"You call yourself ugly, but you've only seen yourself when you look at the mirror," her thread began.

The thread went on to give examples of the moments of beauty that we don't get to see in ourselves — but that other people do.

Like when your face lights up or you smile without trying to.

Or when you talk about the things that you love.

(Are you crying yet?!)

Alex finished by summarizing what beauty is really about, and why it's hard for us to see. We won't find the "smallest moments" in a mirror.

Alex's tweets touched thousands. How can you not cry after such a meaningful message?

There are a lot of self-love messages on social media these days, and many of them are corny. But this one? This one is just real.

Alex's first tweet got over 187,000 likes, and other users' responses on Twitter show just how much the message resonated.

Because in an era where we can't help but compare ourselves with others on a daily basis, this message of true beauty is very much needed, as one user's reply shows.

Basically, it's tears for everyone. BUT THAT'S NOT EVEN THE BEST PART.

After receiving a ton of attention for the thread, Alex explained why she wrote it.

"I wrote this for my girlfriend since it's almost our anniversary," she tweeted.

Which means Alex is not only an extremely wise Twitter personality, but also an extremely thoughtful girlfriend.

Ugh, more tears.

Who needs mirrors anyway? You're beautiful just the way you are.
