Thomas Markle is at it again. The 74-year-old father recently gave a statement to the Daily Mail about his estranged daughter Meghan Markle's recent pregnancy announcement.
Last week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they're expecting their first baby. Thomas revealed that he heard the good news over the radio while he was waiting to cross the US-Mexico border, calling it an "overwhelming and joyful" moment.
"The first thing I thought about was holding Meghan in my arms as a newborn 37 years ago," Thomas said. "I thought, 'My baby is having a baby.' It was a very proud moment."
Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, has also shared her excitement about welcoming her grandchild in the spring. Thomas also denied reports that he was notified about the pregnancy before the official announcement, claiming that he found out along with the rest of the world.
Thomas and Meghan have been estranged from one another since shortly before the royal wedding in May.

Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, released an official statement on the same day.

Meghan's estranged father Thomas, on the other hand, denies reports that Doria revealed the news to him before the official announcement.

He says he found out along with the rest of the world on Monday.
"I was sitting in line waiting to cross the border when I heard the baby announcement on the car radio," Thomas told the Daily Mail.

It was an emotional moment, Thomas revealed.
"I was filled with love, joy and happiness for both my beautiful daughter and my son-in-law," he said. "A new baby is a blessing and I look forward to seeing a little Meghan or a little Harry."

The moment also reminded Thomas of when Meghan was a baby herself, and he recounted her birth.
"It was in the middle of the night when Meghan was born by caesarean section. Doria was sleeping [anesthetized] and so I was the first person in the world to hold Meghan," Thomas reminisced. "When they handed her to me and I held her in my arms for the first time it was love at first sight. She was the most beautiful baby."

"Meghan winked at me and I fell in love and have never stopped loving her from that day forward," he continued.
Meghan and her father have been estranged since shortly before the royal wedding, making it likely that this public interview is his way of indirectly saying "Congratulations" to the duchess in the only way that he can.
The controversy began when Thomas cooperated with paparazzi to take various staged photos, including one that showed him being fitted for a wedding suit. Thomas did not end up attending the wedding due to suffering two heart attacks shortly before it.

He continues to give interviews to the press and remains the subject of a ton of media scrutiny. This, he explained, is why he chose to come forward and give an official interview about his response to the baby news.
"I have seven cars outside my house with reporters and photographers in them — it's a gross invasion of my privacy," Thomas said.

But Thomas had nothing but positive things to say in his most recent sit-down.
"I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me," he said. "Me not getting a call is most likely a misunderstanding about my two back-to-back heart attacks and me missing the wedding. There has been so much misinformation and lies that perhaps made them mistrust me."

Nonetheless, the proud father wasn't surprised to hear the news, and he thinks Meghan will be a natural at motherhood.
"Meghan loves children and she and Harry have been talking about wanting a family from the start," he said. "I'm delighted for them both."
