Martha Stewart Paid Her Way Through College As A Chanel Model Before She Became A Lifestyle Guru

Martha Stewart is known for her career as a domestic goddess, magazine publisher, writer, successful businesswoman, and television personality.

Since the 1990s, Martha Stewart has been a household name.

Although she had to spend five months in prison in 2004, Martha is back in a good place again. Currently, she stars on the popular cooking show Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party with musician Snoop Dogg.

Almost everyone knows who Martha Stewart is, but most people don't realize that her career began well before she had her own television show.

In fact, Martha began working at age 10, as a babysitter for the children of New York Yankees players. Within five years, though, Martha had a very different job — as an actor in a Unilever television commercial.

In college, Martha started modeling for high-fashion brands like Chanel to help pay for tuition.

Check out some gorgeous throwback photos of Martha below!

In 1961, Martha married Andrew Stewart, taking his last name.

Martha's first big break as a domestic icon came in the form of a cookbook deal. She released a variety of other cookbooks after that, and began writing newspaper columns and magazine articles on the subject of homemaking.

During this time, she also appeared on television shows, like The Oprah Winfrey Show — the two are photographed together above.
