‘There’s No Way To Lock Yourself Inside’: Walmart Employee Speaks Out After Teen Died In Oven

An immigrant family was recently devastated by the loss of their daughter, Gursimran Kaur. The 19-year-old’s mother found her charred remains in a walk-in oven at a Canadian Walmart. When we initially reported this story, authorities called the case complex, and had yet to mention any suspected foul play.

But now, other Walmart employees are coming forward with their own theories about what may have happened to this young woman.

In a series of TikTok videos, a current Walmart employee showed how the ovens work and demonstrated how it is impossible to lock yourself inside of one. Instead, she claimed that someone would have had to push Kaur inside.

She showed that the oven turns on from the outside. She demonstrated how hard you have to pull the handle to open it and how hard you have to close and lock the handle into place for it to remain locked from the inside. “There’s no way possible somebody could lock themselves in there,” she said.

She showed the numerous steps it takes to lock the oven. “Now somebody could throw me in there and lock me in there but that’s a whole different scenario,” she said.

In another video, she wrote that the stores undergo inspections every day by managers. “They cannot be locked from the inside. You have to lock them from the outside, apply a lot of pressure and pull handles to lock them in place.”

Another Walmart employee claimed that the oven at her store has an interior metal release but it gets extremely hot when the oven is in use.

Police are still investigating the matter, Daily Mail reports. It’s still unclear how Kaur ended up in the oven and how she was locked in there. The Walmart where she and her mother once worked was closed as police investigated. Afterward, a spokesperson for the company confirmed that the oven would no longer be used in the store and was set for removal, according to Mexican publication Merca2.0.

Kaur’s mother found her daughter’s remains in a traumatic discovery. After searching for her throughout the store, a colleague noticed a “leakage” coming from the oven. In a since-disabled GoFundMe page, the author wrote, “Imagine the horror that her mother experienced.”

Authorities have yet to release additional details in the ongoing investigation and have not commented on whether they believe there was an another party involved in Kaur’s death.
