If you had one day left to live, what would you do? People almost never have a chance to live their final day to the fullest, because death isn't planned.
The same can be said for our beloved animals. As dogs near the end of their lives or progress into a terminal and debilitating disease, many owners have to make a tough choice about how they can pass most peacefully.
More often than not, people will come to the humane decision to put their dogs down instead of letting them die in pain. It might be the right choice, but that doesn't make it an easy one by any means.
One Imgur user recently had to undergo this heartbreaking process and schedule an appointment to put down her beloved dog, Hannah.
Instead of letting Hannah know how sad she was, her owner decided to "make the last day the best one yet."
Hannah's owner explains on the Imgur post:
For about two months Hannah has been having seizures, they were small and nothing to worry about, but they gradually got worse.
Hannah was on a couple of meds, one for her kidneys and another for the pain she had in her elbows and her hips.
When she wasn’t on her meds, she didn’t have really bad seizures, she had them, but they weren’t horrible, but when she wasn’t on her meds, she couldn’t walk well or make it up the stairs, several times she fell down them or up them.
I finally decided that keeping her on the meds was selfish, but keeping her off of them was just as cruel.
So I decided to give her one last hoo-rah day of pampering, like the queen she’s always been, and let her go.
Where there would be no pain, no seizures, no whimpering in the night. Just peace and hopefully love. <3
R.I.P. Hannah.
Hannah was treated to a day at the spa, where she could chill out and love the way she smells.
No spa trip would be complete without a little beauty mark.
Or a bandana that states the obvious — that Hannah is beautiful.
McDonald's may not be the best meal for dogs, but, being her last day, Hannah can eat whatever she wants.
She was happy to see her old friends and have a last romp around the yard.
She looks happy as a clam on her way to the vet. I think she enjoyed her best day ever.
