Makeup Artist Proudly Shows Off Her Acne Even When Bullies Cruelly Mock Her Skin

Almost everyone has had acne at some point in their life.

Many people are lucky and only get a pimple or blackhead from time to time, but others experience severe acne for years.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of shame surrounding acne. It all comes down to the unfair expectation that women have perfect skin: They shouldn't have any visible pores; they should have an even skin tone; and they shouldn't have imperfections.

Of course, that's simply not how skin works, and many celebrities — like Kendall Jenner — have spoken out about being bullied for having imperfect skin, or, in other words, being normal.

Makeup artist Emerald Beauty, who cites Kendall Jenner as an inspiration, has been using her popular Instagram account to fight trolls who shame people for acne.

Emerald has pretty severe acne, but she doesn't let that stop her from showing off her makeup skills, all while racking up followers.

Her goal: She wants to normalize acne and take away the stigma attached to it.

On January 10, 2018, she shared a particularly poignant message with her followers.

She wrote:

I find it very odd how people are very quick to judge others without looking in the mirror. Acne is perfectly normal & lots of us have it.

I’m soo over the moon happy that @kendalljenner actually responded to the internet trolls that made fun out of her acne.

“Don’t let that sh*t stop you” which is very true!

So what if you have acne or any skin condition, why should that stop you doing the things you love?

A lot of people point out how I “can’t wear makeup” due to my skin. That’s not even okay.

So I’m not allowed to wear makeup because of my skin condition? That’s the most stupid thing I’ve heard.

It’s rude & stupid. Acne can be caused by many things.

If me or anyone else with a skin condition wants to wear makeup, guess what? WERE GONNA CAKE OUR FACE BECAUSE WE CAN!

It wouldn’t be nice if you received messages on your imperfections.

Let’s embrace the fact that we can have the confidence to go outside with no makeup!

Not worrying of what others think. You can’t please everyone. What matters is how YOU feel!

Even when bullies say horrible things like, "I don't mean to be rude but you need to treat your skin instead of wearing makeup! Makeup will damage your skin more!!" Emerald stays positive.

She says that overall the good comments outweigh the bad.

For example, one person wrote:

You have inspired me to be more confident and comfortable with my acne! I’m quite self conscious about my face and have felt like my makeup looks bad when my skin is.

But you have helped me to (slowly but surely) change my perspective of my acne! Thank you
