Instructables user "bensmith1209" was hoping to upgrade his old vehicle veneer with something a bit more patriotic — so with a few pieces of hardware and some store-bought paint, our DIY-er turned his shabby hood into a truly one-of-a-kind set of wheels.

Our DIY-er started by sourcing an old hood from his local auto shop. Next, he measured the entire piece and divided it into 13 stripes.
Afterward, he assessed the length and width of his stripes and stars — painting the appropriate spaces with red and white paint.
Next, our Instructables user built a star-patterned stencil out of a junked piece of wood.
He did a test spray-paint on some newspaper to ensure the pattern was properly in place.
Next, it was time to add those patriotic stars. After painting on his blue square, our DIY-er took pains to carefully spray through his star-patterned stencil.
To finish, he applied a clear coat of paint and his hood was ready to be attached to his vehicle.
