Fast-Moving Ostrich Tries To Beat Stunned Cyclists To The Finish Line

Although I haven't been on a bike ride in what seems like forever, I know that when I'm leisurely trying to get from point A to point B, I don't expect to be followed, or to end up in a race with another cyclist — there's a time and place for everything!

One ostrich didn't get the memo after meeting a pair of cyclists on a road in Africa! A man was filming two bikers ahead of him when the giant bird appears just over his right shoulder. At first you think it's just two men on bicycles, then you see it appear on the right-hand side of the screen. The bird chases — or races — the cyclists with astounding speed. It's amazing that he caught up with the stunned humans, and that maybe he could have run past them and beat them to the finish line.

The ostrich is the fastest two-legged animal on Earth, and reach speeds up to 40 mph, and maintain a speed of 30 mph for over half an hour. These animals are definitely more athletic than I am, and perhaps most people — it's not wonder he was able to catch up!

The clip has even gotten the attention of pro cyclist and Tour de France winner Chris Froome!
