Parent Builds Incredible DIY Kitchen Play Set For Kids

As a kid, one of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon was by playing in the homemade fort my dad had built in the backyard.

These one-of-a-kind play sets are such a great way for kids to use their imaginations and stay entertained for hours — like with this magical tree house that two grandparents built for their grandkids.

And when I spotted this complete kitchen play set that one DIY-er created for his child, it gave me flashbacks to playing chef as a kid myself!

I found this project on Instructables from user chapman811 who made an entire mini kitchen for his daughter, complete with a refrigerator, a stove, an oven and a sink — the perfect DIY for any kid looking to play “grown-up” for a bit.

Scroll through below for a look at this amazing creation.

In order to build the main portion of the DIY kids kitchen, this Instructables user purchased an inexpensive kitchen cabinet from a local surplus store. This cabinet would form the base of the kitchen's sink and stove unit.

This DIY-er created a fun — though not functional — sink using a pet's water bowl and a cheap bathroom faucet.

They then painted the countertop in two different sections — one for the sink area and the other for the stovetop.

This DIY parent painted the lower cabinets a lovely blue and white, and installed a faux oven.

The oven included a cookie rack on the inside, and a plexiglass panel for the oven door.

This DIY-er writes, "Compact discs were glued on and used as fake 'electric burners.'"

With the main unit complete, it was time to tackle the kitchen's refrigerator, complete with shelving.

The Instructables user added refrigerator storage to the door by upcycling old plastic organizers.

They then added some lovely accents to the outside, to personalize the piece and imitate regular refrigerator magnets.

And, of course, what kitchen would be complete without accessories, like these sugar and flour pots created from dollar store containers?

The final results? As this DIY-er writes, any child "would love to have this play kitchen."
