When Charity Johnson began planning her precious son Ethan's 5th birthday party, she had more than gifts waiting to surprise the adorable kiddo. Her little man has been forced to deal with some tough medical issues in his short life so far. During his first year alone, Ethan was required surgery, quarantine, and nearly went blind in one eye due to a mysterious illness. He's only just been able to ween off the medication for his eyes. Finally able to live his life like all the other boys his age, there was one thing Ethan wanted for his birthday: a little brother or sister!
He had spent the last eight months nagging his mom, who has her own share of medical issues, to provide a sibling for him. Diagnosed with Addison's disease when she was 18 and told by doctors she wouldn't make it past 25 years of age, Charity wasn't sure she would ever have children. Now 33, she and her family know the risks of getting pregnant in her condition.
Charity explains that she and her husband made the decision regardless of how much longer she might or might not live, knowing she will shower her kids with so much love they can always hold inside their hearts. She admits that having Ethan might seem selfish, but it's clear this mama and her tyke are true fighters!
