This Sand Pit Seat Is The Perfect Spring/Summer DIY Project

Got any spare outdoor space in your yard? If so, then this video is totally for you. Courtesy of Better Homes and Gardens, Rob Palmer demonstrates how to build a clever sandpit that's unlike anything you've seen before. That's because this brilliant design incorporates seating around the outside, then becomes a cover and perfect deck area fit for a playful kid. That's right… this sandpit doubles as a deck and can fold into a bench! What a cool, creative idea.

What caught my eye the most about this project are the bright, fun and kid-friendly colors. Rob says it's very important to paint those multi colors on the slats before assembling the pit. (Otherwise, things can take an extremely messy turn.) After constructing the pit's base, which provides drainage and extra strength for the bench, Rob moves onto the frame, sides and lid. Then, it's time to pour the sand inside, which only costs $8 a bag. He puts the finishing touches on, like ropes to easily open and close the lid, and latches for locking and unlocking the pit.

"It really is the sandpit that has it all," Rob says. "It's a lounge deck, it's a sandpit and with bench seats."

What a perfect excuse to put down the phone and play outside with your kids. Or, you know… just by yourself. Please SHARE this amazing DIY project with your friends on Facebook!
