Do you hate having loose change? How many times have you gotten a penny back, because something cost $19.99? I know it's been WAY too many times for me. I could probably buy myself something really nice with all those leftover pennies.
Owen, a frustrated radio listener in Australia, decided to call into his favorite program to voice that exact opinion. He wanted to know why there wasn't a 9-cent coin? Since most things are "5 dollars 99," he thinks there is no point since "you don't have a 9-cent coin." Owen's point is pretty valid, and the radio hosts agreed, so they decided to do something for him.
The hosts from the Triple J show went down to Jason Ree to have a coin made — just for Owen. The process for creating a coin might seem simple to those of us who don't have any experience, but it's actually pretty grueling work. The steps made by the folks at Jason Ree were very long and interesting (one step involves ketchup), but the end result was beautiful.
Watch the video below to see just how a 9-cent coin is made! The best moment is when Owen is surprised with the final product. He had no idea what they were going to give him!
